Taming Worry is an 8 week group designed to support children between the ages of 7-10 as they explore their feelings of fear, anxiety, and worry in a fun and encouraging environment.
Through the exploration of their worries through activities, crafts and discussion; the children learn skills and strategies to cope with their fears and anxiety in an supportive setting with their peers.
Topics explored include:
- symptoms of anxiety
- individual anxiety triggers
- how our brains work
- self talk
- negative thoughts
- mindfulness & movement
A group for parents/guardians is held at the same time in another room. This provides support to the parent/guardian(s) and encourages families to practice and discuss skills together between group sessions.
Dawn Kellington – Group Facilitator – Children’s
Dawn has a Bachelor of Social Work and is a Registered Social Worker with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW). She also has a Bachelor of Arts in Religion & Culture. As a Community Program Coordinator, Dawn works with youth & children through groups and other programming. She believes strongly in the value of fostering creativity and is passionate about supporting children & youth as they learn and grow!
Rhonda Stimpson – Group Facilitator – Parent’s
Rhonda has a Diploma in Early Childhood Development, Bachelor of Social Work and is a Registered Social Worker with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW). As a Community Support Worker she facilitates parent groups in 3 inner city schools in Saskatoon. Rhonda has 15 years of experience as a social worker and 7 years of experience as a parent educator. She also provides individual parent and life support for Teen and Young Parents. Rhonda believes that it takes a village to raise a child and we all approach parenting hoping to be the best parent we can be.
